Valar Ventures is a US-based venture capital fund founded by Andrew McCormack, James Fitzgerald and Peter Thiel. The company has invested primarily in technology startups outside of the United States and has backed companies in countries spanning the globe, including Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada, and the UK. The fund made its initial investment in Xero in October 2010 at a company valuation of approximately $98 million. Since then, the firm has spearheaded successive rounds of investment in Xero as the company's market cap has grown to more than $4 billion as of February 2014. Valar initially raised approximately $32 million for a New Zealand-specific fund in 2010.
